ASSESSMENT OF CARBON SEQUESTRATION AT ECO RESTORATION SITE
BCCL has undertaken the carbon sequestration study for quantifying the carbon dioxide being sequestered by the model ecological restoration sites developed at Tetulmari, Sijua area and Damoda, Barora Area through Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. Amount of carbon sequestered by the ecological restoration may be considered as a parameter for defining the success attained in restoring the ecology of the concerned region.

SOURCE APPORTIONMENT STUDY:

This is a study to quantify different sources (different industries/domestic/traffic etc) contributing to ambient air pollution.Work of Source Apportionment Study initiated by NEERI (National Environmental Engineering Research Institute), Nagpur with work order awarded on 12.05.2018. NEERI has identified 13 stations and data collection for different seasons is in progress.

ENVIRONMENTAL NEWSLETTER OF BCCL:

BCCL is publishing “ParyavaranDarpan”, an environmental newsletter to create awareness about the various concepts related to environment & mining and to provide platform for sharing the best practices, disseminating valuable information and propagating awareness that will pave the way for attaining the goal of environment protection, since 2015. The newsletter is being circulated to MOC, MOEFCC, all subsidiaries of CIL, Regulatory authorities and also uploaded on BCCL website. View

DEVELOPMENT OF ECO-PARKS:

Along with establishment of the natural forests over the degraded mined out areas and OB dumps, BCCL has also been developing eco-parks over some degraded mined out areas and OB dumps sites, with an aim to connect with the local communities residing nearby the mining areas of BCCL; transform the image of the company among the stakeholders, and provide a suitable place to the people for recreation and rejuvenation to the local people residing in nearby Areas.. The development of eco-parks will lead to the promotion eco-mining tourism in the mining areas. These eco-parks will also generate some opportunities for livelihood generation through ancillary activities to the locals.. Read more….

STUDY TO MONITOR OCCUPATIONAL DISEASES:

BCCL ensures the regular health examination of the all the work force engaged in mining activities. IME(Initial Medical Examination) and PME(Periodical Medical Examination) are being carried out to monitor the health of the employees. Besides regular periodic health checkup of their workers, 10% of the workers identified from workforce engaged in active mining operations were subjected to health checkup for occupational diseases and hearing impairment through NIOH, Ahmadabad which is a premier institute, under the aegis of the ICMR under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
